An unregistered player is not covered by insurance and is not eligible to take the field. Getting this right is the registrar's most important job.
Registration
Every participant registers through the club before playing, including trial and training participants where required. Registration is what connects a player to insurance cover and to eligibility, so it comes before the first contact session, not after.
Age eligibility
Age divisions exist for safety as much as fairness. Check how age is calculated for the season rather than assuming it follows the calendar year, and never assume a player who fitted last season still fits this one.
Transfers between clubs
A player moving clubs needs a clearance from the former club

Players from interstate or overseas
Players arriving from another state association or from overseas may need additional clearance. Contact club support early with the details, because these take longer than domestic transfers and are a common cause of a player missing the opening rounds.
Dispensation
Where a player falls outside standard eligibility, there may be a dispensation process. It requires an application and a decision. Playing the player and seeking forgiveness later risks forfeited games and sanctions.
